Interview with Evelyn Rivera on May 23, 2017, Segment 18
CENTRO: 100 Puerto Ricans Oral History Project, 2013-
Rivera mentions Doug Head as a leader that helped Puerto Ricans, particularly Democratic ones, to establish the Hispanic Caucus. Rivera gives her thoughts on how politicians don't support the Puerto Rican community and treat its citizens in a patronizing way, placating them with Puerto Rican food and drink. Rivera points out that the community's aspirations are the same ones that all communities have: to educate their children so that they can achieve more than their parents have.
