Coined by Nuyorican poet Bimbo Rivas, Loisaida is Spanglish for "Lower East Side". This neighborhood, commonly known today as Alphabet City, was home to Puerto Rican intellectuals, artists and poets in the 1960s, '70s, and '80s.
