Carlos Ortiz Papers, 1940s-2006

Machito (1908-1984) was a Latin jazz musician who helped popularize Afro-Cuban jazz and create both Cubop and salsa music. Dizzy Gillespie (1917-1993) was an American jazz trumpeter and helped developed bebop jazz along with Charlie Parker.
