Emelí Vélez de Vando Papers, 1919-1999

Group including Jose Emilio Gonzalez, Juanita Rosado, Emelí Vélez de Vando and Carmen Pugdollen (first row) in Juanita Rosado's home, New York, NY, 1951. Emelí Vélez de Vando was presenting a portrait of Mariana Bracetti, leader of the Puerto Rican independence movement in the 1860s, given to Rosado by request of Pedro Alibizu Campos, President of the Puerto Rican National Party, offered as a token of Campos' affection and admiration of Juanita. Campos also requested biographical information on Bracetti. Written on back of photograph: "Este acto fue organizado a solicitud del maestro Don Pedro Albizu Campos, en una visita que le hiciera Don Pedro a Juanita en su hogar, llevandole un retrato de Mariana Broceti como prueba de afecto y admiracion a Juanita. Juanita a la vez me solicito que yo hiciera la busqueda de los datos biograficos de Mariana. Fui a N.Y. a complacerla. 51-52"
