A photograph by Carlos Ortiz of protest signs over the campus of Hostos Community College during the demonstration to save the South Bronx college from closing in 1976, due to the NYC fiscal crisis. Signs include "Beame Says Cutbacks, We Say Fight Back!"in reference to the then-mayor Abraham Beame's efforts to save NYC from financial ruin in the mid-1970s. After a 20-day takeover, the protests were successfully in saving the college from closing.
