Steamship Borinquen - Porto Rico Line, postcard

José Rafael Méndez Steamships Collection, 1906-1940

Borinquen. Before leaving on her maiden voyage, the ship was opened for public inspection and received 1,500 visitors along with wide press coverage. In 1946, it was returned to the Porto Rico Line after carrying troops and supplies across the Atlantic Ocean during WWII. In March 1949, it was refurbished and renamed the Puerto Rico. In 1959, it became the Bahama Star, one of the founding vessels of the Miami cruise lines. Source: An American Ship Line: The Porto Rico Line, by Rodney H. Mills, Steamboat Bill, Fall 1997.
