Martin Perez discusses his early life in Puerto Rico and subsequent establishment in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Perez was an activist and community organizer from an early age. While in Puerto Rico he mobilized against the Vietnam War and he was a member of the Puerto Rican Socialist Party. After moving to the United States, Perez continued his community work, this time targeting the Puerto Rican and Latino population. In 1999, he became one of the founding members of the organization Latino Leadership Alliance, which he describes as a non-partisan institution dedicated to address the interests and issues that impact the community.
